Bosch´s Latest Firmware Update for Gen 5 eBike Motors: More Torque and More Range

Bosch is set to release a significant firmware update for its eBike smart system in 2025, introducing a suite of new features aimed at ride customization, safety, and overall user experience.

Range Control is one of the new feature that allows riders to set a desired battery charge level upon arrival at their destination. The system then adjusts motor support accordingly to help achieve this target, offering more precise energy management during rides. This is done by an artificial intelligence programed to optimize battery usage. By analyzing factors such as system weight, route elevation, and individual riding behavior, it predicts the remaining battery charge upon reaching your destination.

The redesigned Eco+ mode is optimized for energy efficiency by providing motor assistance only under heavier loads, such as on inclines. This mode helps extend the bike's range by reducing unnecessary power usage on flat terrains.

Another important update is introduced in advanced navigation features, including extended route planning capabilities. For eBikes equipped with Bosch ABS, riders can now access detailed statistics like brake duration within the Activity Tracking feature.

These updates will be delivered via the eBike Flow app, ensuring that riders can easily access and install the new features. The rollout is scheduled to begin in summer 2025, aligning with Bosch's commitment to continuous improvement and rider satisfaction

Bosch has previously enhanced the torque of its Performance Line CX motors through software updates, increasing it from 75 Nm to 85 Nm. This improvement, introduced in 2020, aimed to provide better acceleration, especially at low cadences, and improved performance on steep terrains .

As of the latest information available, Bosch has not announced any further torque increases beyond the current 85 Nm for the Performance Line CX Gen 5 motors, however most likely the new update will suppose another jump in Nm offering up to 105Nm of torque to compete against the new S-Works motor and DJI Avinox system.
